The corn was knee high by the 4th of July which hasn't happened in my garden until this year. I think all the manure was great. I can see why corn is of the grass family. If you look at the picture of the beans/spinach below, the row behind is the row where the corn and squash are.

Where the spinach was in June is now beans

Knowing that the spinach wouldn't last much past early July and the beans start later, I thought this plan would be a good idea. We have a Mexican Bean Beetle problem, so Keira and I sewed together some material to keep the beetles out. It seems to be working since the beans are free of beetles even with a few holes in the gauze. It looks cool and its a great way for people to find my plot when I am in it. This row also has artichokes, calendula, and had Broccoli Raab and Pak Choi.

Tomatos, basil, and nasturtiums

This row has tomatoes trellised on concrete reinforcing mesh, with a row of basil and nasturtiums (which are edible flowers) on either side. The first photo is after I planted them in late May when I got home from my trip to Wisconsin. The other two pic's were taken on August 10th.

A closer look at cabbage and peppers

I haven't ever tried growing cabbage until this year. I planted peppers in between the cabbage plants and if you look close (click on the picture and it will open into a larger view), you may see a pepper or two under the leaves. The bottom photo is of cabbage and peppers when we planted them in early June. The middle photo was taken yesterday before I harvested a cabbage. Now... what to do with cabbage...

What warm weather can do.

These pictures were taken during this growing season. Early April, early June and yesterday Aug 10th. Since I got an award for 'best use of space' and not 'not great at weeding', I thought I would post a few of the things going on at the garden. These photos were all taken at about the same place, except the one with the red sign.

4th of July

Matt and I went to Durango for the 4th. We rode 50 miles off road in 2 days, the singletrack was fabulous and the weather wasn't too hot. Good food, good pals, it was a fun trip!

Engagement Party

Matt and I went to an engagement party that was held at a fancy car, fast car, show room. Thought I would take a few photos for the Wachtel men. Next time you are in town, we can go visit if you like...
